Applicant Guidelines

We hope that the following guidelines will be of assistance. Please take a few minutes to read them before completing your application form.

General Advice

  • Complete all parts of the application form.  All questions must be answered for your form to be accepted.  The information will be used for shortlisting.
  • Submit your application form by the closing date as your application will not be considered if it is received after the closing date.
  • If you feel that you require an extension, this will only be considered on the grounds of a disability.  In these circumstances you must contact the HR department to make arrangements prior to the closing date.
  • As we shortlist using the Person Specification and Job description, we do not advise you to send a CV as you may not cover the detail required to ensure you are successfully shortlisted. However if your CV covers aspects too lengthy to appear on the application form, i.e. publications or research that you have been involved in, please feel free to attach your CV in addition to the application form.

Further Information to support your application

You should refer to the person specification and job description when filling in this information.  You need to ensure you demonstrate how you meet the criteria in each area.  Supporting information can be anything that is not already covered by the questions on the form.  Please use the form and do not send in CV’s.

This includes:

  • Further explanation of your duties and responsibilities in your current (and previous) roles, which may be relevant to the post for which you are applying.
  • More information about your skills, knowledge or experience
Explanation of apparent gaps in your career profile, as these will usually be discussed at interview.
  • Description of voluntary work
  • Additional information about research experience (Academic, Research or Senior Posts)
  • Additional information about publications or presentations you have been involved in. (Academic, Research or Senior Posts)
  • Plus any other information you think supports your application.

 References

  • It is most important that you supply the names and addresses of two referees and a telephone number where possible.
  • It is vital that you inform your referee that we will be taking references once this has been confirmed, this will ensure we are able to process your application quickly as possible.
  • At least one referee should be your present or most recent employer, wherever possible the second referee should also be a previous employer.
  • In certain circumstances we may be able to accept other referees, if they are able to comment on your ability to perform the job you are applying for e.g. referees from voluntary work, course tutors, teachers etc.
If you do not wish us to contact your referee prior to interview, please mark the relevant box.

National Insurance Number

  • It is important we have your National Insurance Number for administrative purposes.

Migrant Workers

  • If you are not a UK national, or from the European Community, you will need permission to work in the UK.  A Certificate of Sponsorship will be required for applicants from outside the EEA.
  • An employer will not be able to get a Certificate of Sponsorship for an applicant if the post can be filled by a UK or EEA resident.
  • If you are made an offer of employment, we will need to apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship on your behalf and require you to provide all the relevant information and Documentation required in a timely manner.
